![]() Even then, it’s debatable whether or not this is the best known of all her books. ![]() ![]() At long last I settled on The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton, which came in at #32 on my 100 Picture Books Poll lo these many years ago. Let us change all of that at once! Sounds simple enough, yes? All I had to do was to find a Gold Medal Caldecott Award winning book illustrated by a woman that your average person on the street would be familiar with. Also, Kate hasn’t had a chance to look at a real Gold Medal Caldecott Award winner. Authors, yes, but the only woman we covered was Diana Souza (extra points if you can remember which famous book she illustrated). Then, this week, I decided that we just haven’t done enough women illustrators on our show. ![]() You know how folks talk all the time about how more men win the Caldecott Award than women? Well, I’ve always sort of ignored that statement, citing in my head all kinds of women from over the years. ![]() ![]() Will it be enough? And can’t they end up in trouble for this? Pick it up to find out! Things get a little crazy, but this group of teens definitely have their hearts in the right place. Steph, who they dub, The Architect, will take the scene by storm, they just know it, but how the heck they gonna pull it off? He should be remembered for his greatness. They won’t let Steph’s legacy die with him. Now they have tracks they need to share with the world. While innocently poking about Steph’s room the trio discovers he had been in a studio recording. The boys knew Steph was real into his music, but they didn’t understand the passion went this far. Additionally, they find the room plastered with images and memorabilia of his favorite musical artists. Inside they find his little sister, Jasmine, also seeking solace from the crowd. Getting away from the crowd, Quadi and Jarrell head up to Steph’s room, a sanctuary to which they have never gained access to before. The year is 1998 and in their Brooklyn neighborhood, the murders of Biggie Smalls and Tupac are still fresh in everyone’s minds.Īfter Steph’s funeral, family and friends gather at Steph’s Mom’s place to show their respects and remember him. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Why did it happen?īut as the boys know, violence doesn’t often make sense and talent certainly doesn’t protect you. All of this is to say: Lisa Jewell really needs no introduction, but on the off chance that you, too, are a latecomer to Jewell and her binge-worthy brand of psychological suspense, allow this blog post to serve as your point of entry into this prolific author’s work. Jewell is the author of seventeen internationally bestselling novels, and her newest release, THE FAMILY UPSTAIRS, debuted on the New York Times bestsellers list. I devoured Jewell’s newest release THE FAMILY UPSTAIRS earlier this fall, and there’s no going back-I’m a Lisa Jewell fan for life. There's fantasy as you see Mildred dressed as a witch but with Doc Martens, flying on her broomstick, complete with all her luggage. The series will probably appeal to girls rather than boys, as the human cast list is exclusively female, but it has all the elements that make a good book. My grandchildren cut their teeth (sometimes literally) on her books for younger children and the Worst Witch series, first published in 1974, is a timeless classic. When she gets to school it all starts to go wrong, as Ethel steals her project and there are problems with a tortoise who doesn't like being called Speedy and a ride in a broomstick in near-hurricane conditions. She's even pleasantly surprised when her arch enemy, Ethel Hallow, drops in (from her broomstick) as Mildred rescues her cat from a tree. ![]() She's worked on the most wonderful project over the holidays and she's certain that everyone is going to be impressed. ![]() Mildred Hubble isn't usually quite so keen to go back to Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches on the first day of term, but today it's different. It's a school-based adventure story with illustrations by the author. Summary: The fifth book in The Worst Witch series will delight any early reader although it's probably more for girls than boys. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Language eng Summary Discover what makes Lucy Gilmore an instant fan favorite with this unforgettably funny enemies-to-lovers romcom starring: - a grumpy dog show judge - a determined former beauty queen - and a Golden Retriever more interested in stealing bacon than winning Best in Show.
